BOOK PACKAGING & REPRESENTATION

I have twenty-four years experience in nonfiction books. Our services include client representation, writing and editing, design and typesetting, photo shoot coordination and art direction, PR guidance, marketing, and print procurement in the US, Canada, Korea, and China.

We got our start by creating and publishing a cookbook, which has now sold more than 325,000 copies in the US and Canada. We secured distribution to the trade and to the gift market, allowing us to take full advantage of the vast media coverage we received, including appearances on Good Morning America, Bloomberg, CNN, Today Show, Fox Morning News, Discovery Channel, PBS, BBC, and many others. Randall and I handled the marketing and PR, sold foreign rights to England, Australia, and Germany, and sold photo rights to scores more countries.

Since then, we have worked with leading publishers such as Clarkson Potter, Grand Central, and Random House, and we produce books and packaging for clients such as the Embrey Human Rights Foundation, Patrón Liquor, Concierge Auctions, and Disney on Ice. As literary agents, we also represent authors, selling their works to publishers. I am currently pitching a memoir for a four-time New York Times Op-Ed columnist and a cookbook by one of the most respected food stylists of this generation. This week, I have corresponded with the Editorial Director of Avid (Simon & Schuster), Executive Director of Ballantine Bantam Dell (Penguin RandomHouse), Executive Editor of Crown (Penguin Randomhouse), and editors at Harper, Harper Perennial, and Hachette.

Publishers, authors, and corporate clients alike hire us to work with them on their nonfiction projects; we enjoy all variety of genres.

Having worn the hats of publisher, writer, art director, designer, printer broker, publicist, marketer, and agent has placed us in a unique position of understanding the whole of publishing. Writing a book, we’ve learned, is the least of things. We help authors and companies understand their options and navigate the best paths to their goals. We explain the pros and cons of signing with a publisher vs publishing it in-house, working with small publishers vs large houses, and exploring the newer hybrid house options. We help clients understand the possibilities, while managing expectations. And then, if desired, we handle their project from soup to nuts.

Beyond books, we also work with corporate clients on marketing and design, producing all measure of print and digital. Each side of our business informs the other, both requiring good writing and design, marketing that works, and projects that flow smoothly.
